Resources

The following is a collection of helpful websites, videos, and other media that I highly recommend. Some of these may end up being part of homework if you work with me, but I also hope that some of these resources help you find some comfort and solutions on your own pain relief journey.

Understanding Pain in Less than 5 Minutes

I highly recommend watching this 5-minute video. It is a succinct, accurate, and empowering review of how chronic pain works and how it can be managed.

Pain Chats

Pain Chats is an excellent website that offers education on pain neuroscience and concrete ideas to help recovery.

Tame the Beast

Tame the Beast uses storytelling and concrete examples to educate on the details of pain neuroscience. There are resources for patients and health professionals alike.

The Hidden Magic of Occupational Therapy

This TEDx Talk is an excellent explanation of how OT has changed the game for mental health treatment. Chronic pain inevitably has an impact on our mental health, and I find this video is relevant to the work I do.  Listen to her describe the work of an OT and returning to meaningful occupation, and know that I operate on an identical foundation.

Dr. Bronnie Lennox Thompson

Dr Bronnie Lennox Thompson is one of the foremost leaders in reaching the impact of OT in chronic pain. Her blog is primarily aimed at other health professionals who are treating people with pain, but it has some wonderful insights for the layperson as well. This would be some more “Advanced” reading.

Guided Meditation

There are many great ways to access meditations these days. I use this one during every pain flare, and I find that it helps me move through it. YouTube is a great free option to explore guided meditations that focus on chronic pain relief. Also, consider apps like Calm, Headspace, and Insight Timer.

Yoga with Joelle

Moving your body in a way that is safe and calming to your nervous system is an important part of the healing process. There is substantial evidence that yoga helps with chronic pain. The YouTube channel Yoga with Joelle offers accessible yoga sessions specifically designed for those with chronic pain conditions. I especially love the session tailored to individuals with fibromyalgia, but I encourage you to explore all of her options and find one that resonates with you.
